If you want to be an orkut member, sign here

I don't believe in selling free memberships. Orkut memberships are being sold on eBay claiming that they can bag gmail accounts through orkut. NOT TRUE! Orkut is the same like any other online community, and the gmail holders there don't like people begging for an invitation. Here's a typical listing on eBay for an orkut account:

Do you like Google? Do you like GMAIL ? Do you like people who have GMAIL accounts and might also have some spare GMAIL invitations?
If you answered YES to any of those questions, then this auction is for you!
What is Orkut ? (www.Orkut.com). Orkut is an online community that connects people through a network of trusted friends. Orkut is run by google, the same people who run GMAIL . There are many google employees that are on Orkut !
Orkut is unique, because it's an organically growing network of trusted friends. That way we won't grow too large, too quickly and everyone will have at least one person to vouch for them. THE ONLY WAY TO JOIN IS TO GET INVITED!
THIS IS A GREAT WAY TO FIND PEOPLE WHO WORK FOR GOOGLE, AND POSSIBLY GET THEM TO SEND YOU AN INVITATION TO GMAIL MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN THROUGH ORKUT ! THIS IS THE PLACE TO BE!

Through this blog, if you happen to be reading, I would gladly offer FREE invitations to you to become an orkut member. Just write a comment with your name and email address (because that's required to invite somebody), and I'll send you an invitation. No string attached except that you be my new friend. Sound fair?

Gmail as primary email?

Ever since I've been invited to join gmail, I have made gmail as my primary email address.

It's so much more convenient! Now I don't have to be anchored down to a specific computer to access my archived emails. But since gmail is still in beta, I sometimes wonder if this is a wise choice? I've read that Gmail had faced some server downtime and even some minor bugs. Does anybody share the same concerns?

No more Gmail invitations?

Here's my opnion..
It seems like google stopped handing out invites for the time being. The scarcity of invitations are reflected by cimbing prices on eBay (around $70 at the time of writing).
Since Gmail is still in beta, Google may be sending out invitations based on "waves" while testing its petabyte servers to see if it can handle the load and to analyze other problems that may occur. If everyhting is working up to expectations, then it gives the green light to send out additional invitations. When this will happen, only Google knows. So cross your fingers and don't hold your breath. I'm sure more will be coming!

$182.50 for a Gmail Account??

eBay item 5700785327 (Ends May-20-04 07:22:25 PDT) - You're Invited to Join Google Gmail: "US $182.50 "

Take a look at this eBay auction. This is the record I found for a gmail address (shaking head).
Is this ethical?

Gmail: Privacy Issues

I guess I'm one of the "chosen ones" to have a gmail account. To tell you my honest to goodness opinion.

I love it!

I don't care what people are saying about privacy issues. I don't care that Google uses a automated bot to scan my email for keywords so text ads can show up on the right hand frame. First of all I hardly notice it! This is NOTHING compared to what Hotmail and Yahoo Mail does. Quarter screen, richly animated, bandwidth hogging ads that annoys you more than the buzzing of a fly in the middle of the night.

Gmail is a free service. It has to pay the bills somehow, and if its by those little hardly noticable ads, so be it. Give me the gmail ads anyday. In today's high tech world, we learn to unconciously filter out unwanted "noise" in this case the small text based ads. Privacy? I don't even feel violated. If you really think that some poor Google employee is going through your 1000 MB account looking for relevant keywords, you need to have your head examined.

This is a great site to take your chances on getting a Gmail Address! But if you don't have anything very unique to offer, don't expect much!

Welcome!

OK, here's the deal. I won't beat around the bush. I want another Gmail account. Rumors are saying that if you have an active Blogger account, you may receive an invite. But nobody know the algorithm used by the Good ole Google folks. I'm guessing that it's purely random. BUT in order to be even considered, your blog account must meet a certain criteria, such as:

- Post at least x time a week.
- Viewed / visited by x number of people
- Be a registered Blogger for at least x days

But again, these are my own opinions. I really don't have the faintest idea how people are getting invitations. Anyway, since I'm going to maintain an active Blogger account, I would like to put it to good use. So that's what got me started.

Feel free to add, comment, or even start a new topic, anything related to gmail.
I will periodically add my own observations, opinions, links, and other things I feel would be interesting to know about. Thanks for viewing this Blog!
